1801- David Farragut is born at Campbell Station, East Tennessee
1810- Appointed midshipman in the Unites States Navy
1811- Sailed on his first cruise
1813- Put in command of the Alexander Barclay as prize-master
1814- His first battle, Essex, Phoebe, and the Cherub
1818- Went to study at Tunis with United States Consul Charles Folsom
1823- Married to Miss Marchant at Norfolk, Virginia
1840- Mrs. Farragut died
1841- Commissioned commander
1843- Married Miss Loyall at Norfolk
1850-1851- Employed to compile a book of ordinance of regulations
1854- Goes to California to establish a Navy Yard (Mare Island near San Francisco)
